Right now is not a good time to invest your money, especially if it's all the money you have. Interest rates are lower than ever, and banks just aren't paying enough to justify the risk of tying your money up in an account such as a CD, where it isn't liquid. Accounts in which you can access the money, such as money market funds, are paying extremely low interest rates just over 1%.

Instead, you should start working toward making some money from home. You clearly have access to a computer and the Internet. There are several jobs you can do from home that can earn you money. Most states require that you report your earnings while you're collecting unemployment. What you earn will probably be deducted from your unemployment, but will likely extend your benefits for a longer period. Also, in some states you can earn more than your unemployment benefit (up to around 125%, for example) and still keep the benefits. Check with your state unemployment agency to find out how working affects your benefits. You can find out about some lucrative work from home jobs at this link:

Advertise on campus as soon as possible for a new roommate. Make sure that the new roomate pays a reasonable amount for his or her share of rent, food, utilities and other expensees.

Also, you should check into your local food bank. You may qualify to receive food for free. If you don't, stock up on cheap food such as potatoes, rice, macaroni and cheese, sugar, flour, corn meal, oats, beans, eggs and the like. Then cook all of your meals from scratch and eat at home. There are plenty of recipes on the Internet if you're not sure what to make.
