I went on a safari using Amazing Tours and Travel and had a phenomenal time. It's a Nairobi based company so they offer Kenyan expertise. Their website is www.amazingsafaris.com. I stayed at the Mara Intrepids Club in the Masai Mara.

August is a great time to view the Great Wildebeest Migration in the Mara. You'll have such a good time - I am so envious. Can any one give me advice on the best tour company to book a safari while i am in kenya i am staying at diani

Smithsonian Journeys does a safari Tour August 4-15,2008 but it visits Tanzania near Kenya. Smith. doesn't do the safari into Kenya because of the US State department warnings against travel there
check the lonely planet guide - they know their stuff.

I moved to Kenya about 6 months ago from the UK and I want to give you a warning against relying on the information the travel guides give, especially on prices.

There are some very good safari companies here in Kenya, ranging from the moderately priced to the very expensive, but the prices are MUCH higher than many of the guide books say. The reason for this is that the Safari industry here in Kenya is very much aimed at the higher spender.

If you book your Safari with a company here in Kenya it will cost more than if you book with a travel agent in your home country. It's much cheaper to get a package deal than to buy individually. The accomodation and the park entry fees are the highest prices. Also if you fly from Nairobi to the parks it's more expensive than going by road. The Massai Mara is the most expensive park (also the best) as it is run by a private company. The other parks (Like Amobseli - near Mt. Kilimanjaro) are cheaper because they are run by the government.
